The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government has sought additional security personnel from the federal government following a deterioration in the law and order situation across the region.
According to an official letter sent to the Ministry of Interior, the AJK government has requested the immediate deployment of 4,000 personnel from the Federal Constabulary and seven wings of the Pakistan Rangers to help restore peace.
The government stated that the activities of the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) have posed a serious threat to law and order across the state. It added that continuous sit-ins and protest activities in Poonch and Rawalakot have severely disrupted daily life, while organized attempts to create unrest are also underway in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur.
The letter further alleged that armed individuals targeted law enforcement personnel and civilians during violent incidents, resulting in the martyrdom of four security officials and injuries to 174 others. It also claimed that vehicles transporting essential food supplies were set on fire.
The AJK government emphasized that additional security forces are essential to maintain the state’s writ and ensure the safety of citizens. It requested that 50 percent of the deployed personnel be equipped with weapons and ammunition, while the remaining 50 percent be provided with riot-control equipment.
The government urged the federal authorities to immediately deploy the requested personnel and supply the necessary equipment. Copies of the letter were also sent to the Chief Secretary and the Inspector General of Police, Azad Kashmir.
