KABUL: International organizations have raised alarms over the growing threat posed by active terrorist networks in Afghanistan, calling the country a major risk to regional peace and stability.

According to Afghan news outlet Afghanistan International, officials from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have warned that terrorist groups are becoming increasingly active within Afghanistan.
Olzhas Sharshiev, head of the SCO Anti-Terrorist Structure, cautioned that activities of international terrorist groups have intensified not only in Afghanistan but also in Syria. He noted that these groups are expanding their operations to carry out attacks, establish sleeper cells, and gather funds.
Sharshiev added that terrorist organizations in Afghanistan are using forged documents from third countries to facilitate their activities.
Eugene Susayev, head of the Counter-Terrorism Organization of Independent States, said that these groups are increasing their movement within Afghanistan to strengthen regional influence.
The 11th SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure conference was held in Tashkent on November 20-21, with participation from representatives of the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Interpol, and other international bodies.

During the conference, discussions focused on preventing citizens from joining extremist networks and addressing cybersecurity threats.
Global concern over terrorist groups operating in Afghanistan is seen as a validation of Pakistan’s position on regional security.
