Google offers 1,000 scholarships for Pakistani students under Digital Journalism 2.0: see details inside

WEBDESK: The Sindh government has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Google for new digital initiatives.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah chaired the signing ceremony in Karachi. One MoU was signed under the Peoples IT Program (PITP) and the other for the Google Digital Journalism Scholarship initiative.

The Chief Minister said thousands of students had already gained globally recognised IT skills under PITP. More than 4,300 graduates are now part of the workforce. He added that women’s participation and rural representation were key features of the scheme.

He announced that Rs1.4 billion has been set aside for PITP-II. Under this phase, 35,000 students will be trained in 12 modern technologies. Training will be provided by leading universities, including NED University, Mehran University, and Sukkur IBA. Students from matric level to graduation will be eligible.

On the Google Digital Journalism initiative, Murad Ali Shah said it was a joint project of the Sindh government and Tech Valley. Under “Digital Journalism 2.0,” 1,000 scholarships will be given to journalists, government spokespersons, and media studies students.

He called it a milestone for credible journalism and transparency. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon added that the program would help fight fake news and support responsible media practices.
