WEBDESK: Punjab is likely to face more rains until 5 September, raising fears of severe flooding in rivers.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said water flow in the Chenab River at Marala Headworks has reached 468,000 cusecs. At Khanki Headworks it is 339,470 cusecs, and at Qadirabad Headworks it is 232,450 cusecs.
Trimmu, Sidhnai headworks record sharp increase in water flow
At Chiniot Bridge, water levels stand at 108,343 cusecs, while at Trimmu Headworks the figure is 355,744 cusecs.
In the Ravi River, water at Jassar is 71,010 cusecs, at Siphon 54,190 cusecs, at Shahdara 53,630 cusecs, at Balloki Headworks 117,655 cusecs, and at Sidhnai 193,470 cusecs.
The Sutlej River is also rising. At G.S. Wala water levels are 269,501 cusecs, at Sulemanki 122,736 cusecs, at Islam Headworks 95,727 cusecs, and at Panjnad 182,107 cusecs.
Meanwhile, the Power Division has issued an update on restoration work in flood-hit areas. By 3 September, several grid stations and feeders had been affected, but most are being restored.
49 Grid Stations, 487 Feeders Damaged by Floods Across Pakistan
In PESCO’s areas, including Swat, Buner, Shangla, Swabi and D.I. Khan, 12 grid stations and 91 feeders were hit. So far, 85 feeders are fully restored and 6 partially. Out of 463,375 affected consumers, power has been restored to 459,921. The remaining 3,454 consumers are expected to get electricity back between 4 and 11 September.
In GEPCO’s region, 11 grids and 103 feeders were damaged. 83 feeders are fully restored and 13 partially. Out of 735,995 affected consumers, 631,495 now have electricity again. Work for the remaining 104,500 will begin once floodwater recedes.
In LESCO areas, 67 feeders were damaged. 31 are fully restored and 36 partially. Out of 75,681 affected consumers, 59,590 have power back. The remaining 16,091 are expected to be reconnected by 4 or 5 September.
In FESCO’s areas, 26 grids and 76 feeders were hit. 18 are fully restored and 54 temporarily restored. Out of 194,344 affected consumers, 83,185 now have power. The rest are expected to be connected by 4 or 5 September.
In MEPCO, 134 feeders and 88,818 consumers were affected. Restoration will begin once water levels fall.
In TESCO, 13 feeders were hit in North Waziristan and Khyber. 2 feeders are fully restored and 9 partially. Out of 25,433 affected consumers, 9,072 now have electricity. The remaining 16,361 are expected to be reconnected by 5 September evening. In Hazeco’s Mansehra region, 3 affected feeders are fully restored.
Across the country, 49 grid stations and 487 feeders were damaged. Of these, 222 are fully restored and 127 temporarily restored. Out of 1,607,311 affected consumers, power has been restored to 1,266,928 so far.
The Power Division said full restoration remains the top priority and work is continuing on an emergency basis.
