Rawal dam

The spillways of Rawal Dam will be opened on September 2 at 7 AM. The water level at the dam has reached 1751.70 feet which makes the step necessary.

Rawal Dam spillways opening

Officials said that once the spillways are opened, the water flow in Korang Nullah will rise.

The public has been urged not to cross the nullah or use any temporary bridges during rapid water flow. Safety warnings have been issued in nearby areas by using emergency sirens.

Furthermore, rescue teams and local administration are on alert to guide citizens.

The authorities have requested cooperation from the public to prevent accidents.

In recent years, sudden floods in streams and nullahs have caused loss of lives and property.

In previous monsoon spells Islamabad saw a horrific incident where father and daughter swept away in flooded nullah caused by torrential rains.

Which makes caution most important.

Simly Dam alert issued

Along with Rawal Dam, the spillways of Simly Dam have also been opened.

The step was taken after the water level crossed the safe limit. The administration has warned people living near rivers and nullahs to stay away from fast flowing water.

The public has been advised to follow official instructions and avoid unnecessary movement in low lying areas.

Therefore, fishermen and swimmers have been asked to suspend activities until water levels stabilise.

In addition, the opening of the spillways will help manage storage capacity and prevent overflow in case of more rainfall.

Authorities said safety of citizens is their main concern and full arrangements are in place to handle the situation.
