GILGIT BALTISTAN: In an unfortunate incident, a helicopter of Gilgit-Baltistan government has been crashed near Chilas.
As per details, five member on board lost life in the helicopter crash in Diamer District’s Chilas town on Monday.
The GB government spokesperson Faizullah Faraq stated that “One of our helicopters has crashed in Thor, Chilas.”
He said that there were two pilots and three technical staff on board the aircraft.
On the other hand, Diamer Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Abdul Hameed, issued a statement, saying that “reportedly, five casualties occurred due to crash.”
“The helicopter belonged to the Pakistan Army. The helicopter was conducting a test landing on a newly proposed helipad, he said. Diamer police and rescue teams had reached the incident site and started evacuation”, SSP confirmed.
Earlier, a KP helicopter crashed during a rescue operation in the flood hit districts of the province.
Later, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government received the initial inquiry into the KP helicopter crash, which says bad weather and dense fog caused the accident in Mohmand district. Five people were martyred.
KP helicopter crash: timeline and early findings
According to the report, the government helicopter took off at 10:30am for Salarzai, Bajaur.
It crashed near Chingi Banda in Mohmand on the return from relief operations.
Search teams used drone cameras to locate the site, and the crash was confirmed at 4:45pm.
The martyred pilots include Shahid Sultan and retired Wing Commander Aftab.
The bodies were airlifted to Peshawar. Officials said there was no rain at the crash location, but a high ridge was covered in clouds and thick fog.
Furthermore, the wreckage fell in a dry nullah.
Authorities said the cause was poor visibility and weather, not a mechanical fault in the early assessment.
In addition, a detailed technical report will follow standard procedure.
The helicopter was part of ongoing response efforts after severe weather across the north.
Cloudbursts, landslides and flash floods have caused heavy damage in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The provincial government expressed condolences to the families of the martyrs and said support will be provided under service rules.
The KP helicopter crash inquiry will guide next steps to protect crews and speed safe delivery of aid.
