Strong earthquake jolts Islamabad

On Monday night , at 12:21 AM PKT, Islamabad along with Rawalpindi, Lahore, Murree, Mardan, Gujrat, Haripur and most parts of northern Pakistan was struck by a powerful earthquake.

According to initial reports from the PDMA, a 6.0-magnitude earthquake, with a depth of 15 kilometers, strikes upper most parts of Pakistan.

Officials reported the epicentre of current earthquake is in the Koh-i-Hindu Kush region, a volatile area of frequent quakes.

Magnitude of Islamabad earthquake

However, the German Research Centre estimates the quake’s magnitude at approximately 6.2.

Residents reported intense shaking that lasted several seconds, causing panic as buildings trembled and household items fell from shelves.

Emergency response teams have been deployed across Islamabad, KPK, Azad Kashmir and most parts of Punjab to assess damage and provide assistance.

While no immediate casualties have been confirmed, local hospitals are on high alert.

In addition, rescue operations are underway in areas where initial minor structural damage has been reported.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department is closely monitoring the situation and has advised citizens to stay prepared for potential aftershocks.

Residents are sharing their experiences on social media, with many expressing reliefs that the initial impact appears to have caused limited harm.

Although the full extent of the damage is still being evaluated, by the concerned authorities.
