WEBDESK: The National Highway Authority (NHA) has announced an increase in toll tax on the Lahore–Islamabad Motorway (M-2).

According to an official notification issued on Monday, the revised rates will apply from 26 August 2025 and remain in place until 25 August 2026.

The NHA stated that the increase is part of the annual 10 percent rise, agreed under a concession contract signed on 23 April 2014 with the Frontier Works Organisation’s subsidiary, Motorway Operations and Rehabilitation Engineering (Private) Limited.

The agreement is based on the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. It requires toll charges to be raised every year, starting from the second year of operations.

In a seperate news, the government has decided to start a new train service between Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Monday. The aim is to improve travel between the twin cities and to strengthen security for Pakistan Railways and its passengers.

The meeting highlighted plans for long-term railway modernisation. This includes advanced security systems, emergency readiness, and improved passenger services. Six major routes in Punjab are under review for upgrades, including a high-speed train service between Lahore and Islamabad.

Details about fares, schedules, and station facilities are expected soon. CCTV cameras, additional security staff, and anti-encroachment drives will also begin in the coming weeks.
