Web desk: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has decided to deduct a portion of salaries from employees across public, semi-government and private sectors to raise funds for flood victims.
According to the official notification issued by the Finance Department, employees in Grades 1 to 16 will contribute one day’s pay, while officers in Grade 17 and above will donate the equivalent of two days’ basic salary. The deductions will begin from the August 2025 payroll.
Officials said the money collected will be used to provide food, medical care, temporary shelters and other essential services to families who have lost their homes and livelihoods.
Relief supplies are also being coordinated with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), which has already dispatched tents, medical teams and rations to the hardest-hit areas.
The heavy rains and the flash flooding have devastated many of the districts, including Battagram, Bajaur and Mansehra.
Official figures confirm more than 368 deaths, 182 injuries and damage to over 1,300 houses and 100 schools.
Federal authorities have also pledged their support, with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet promising to donate one month’s salary to assist victims in the province.
KP Army flood relief operation update
The Pakistan Army has continued its relief efforts in Shangla, where recent floods caused widespread destruction. Troops reached the remote area of Rajsham to assist stranded families affected by the disaster.
In coordination with Ayesha Foundation, the Army set up both a medical camp and a flood relief camp for displaced families. Food supplies were delivered to residents of Rajsham and surrounding areas, while Army doctors carried out medical check-ups of the affected people.
Army teams also inspected damage to a collapsed bridge and disrupted routes caused by the floods. In Naseemabad, soldiers carried out relief activities at a school badly hit by the flood.
The Pakistan Army has assured that relief operations will continue until the complete rehabilitation of the affected families.
Increase in flood relief package
Previously, an increase in the relief package was announced for people affected by recent heavy rains and flash floods in Swat, Buner, Bajaur, Torghar, Mansehra, Shangla, Dir Upper, Dir Lower, Battagram, Swabi and other districts that may be added later.
According to the revised compensation rates, families of those who lost their lives will now receive Rs2 million. The injured will be entitled to Rs500,000.
For housing damages, the government will provide Rs1 million for completely destroyed homes, while Rs300,000 has been allocated for partially damaged houses. Shopkeepers whose businesses were hit will receive Rs500,000 in support.
In a major change to relief delivery, the provincial authorities have replaced ration distribution with direct cash transfers of Rs15,000 for each affected family.
This assistance, verified through NADRA, is meant to ensure greater transparency and efficiency.
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has been directed to carry out quick and transparent payments under the new scheme.
Officials said the improved package reflects the government’s firm commitment to stand with disaster-hit communities and to provide timely financial assistance to ease their suffering.
