CTD busts RAW terror network in Karachi

WEBDESK: The Sindh Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has dismantled a terrorist network linked to India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) and arrested four suspects.

At a press conference in Karachi, Additional IGP CTD Azad Khan Tanoli, alongside DIG CTD Ghulam Azfar, said the suspects were involved in the killing of social worker Razaullah Nizamani. He was shot dead on 18 May in Matli, Badin district.

Tanoli said the murder was carried out during a period of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India after the Marka-e-Haq incident. He added that Indian media immediately highlighted the killing as propaganda, portraying it as a strike against an “Indian enemy” inside Pakistan.

According to investigators, the mastermind was identified as RAW officer Sanjay Sanjeev Kumar, who is currently based in a Gulf country. The prime suspect, Salman Virk from Sheikhupura, was recruited by RAW. He fled abroad after the killing and later escaped to Nepal.

The CTD arrested four suspects Umair Asghar, Sajjad, Obaid and Shakeel on 8 July through technical surveillance. Officials said the suspects confessed to working for RAW’s local network and admitted ties with a banned militant group. They also revealed that further terrorist attacks were being planned in Karachi.

Two pistols, a motorcycle and mobile phones used in the killing were recovered during the investigation.

CTD officials said RAW provided funding through banking channels and other methods. “RAW spent huge sums of money to execute this killing. The handler, Sanjay Kumar, remained in constant contact with the suspects during the operation,” Tanoli stated.

He added that investigators had also found links between RAW and a separatist group in Sindh. Further arrests are expected as the probe continues.
