DPM Dar leaves for Dhaka on historic visit to Bangladesh

ISLAMABAD: Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar has embarked on a historic visit to Bangladesh.

In Dhaka, the Deputy Prime Minister will hold important meetings with Bangladeshi leaders.

The visit is a significant milestone in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations as a Pakistani Foreign Minister is visiting Bangladesh after a gap of around 13 years.

Yesterday, Lieutenant General Mohammad Faizur Rahman, Quarter Master General of the Bangladesh Army, visited the Joint Staff Headquarters. He called on Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, according to an official statement issued by the ISPR.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the regional security situation and stressed the importance of enhancing defence and security cooperation between Pakistan and Bangladesh.

General Sahir Shamshad Mirza said that Pakistan–Bangladesh relations are continuously moving in a positive direction. He also highlighted new opportunities for expanding defence collaboration.

Both leaders re-underlined that they were committed to regional peace and stability.

The Bangladeshi dignitary expressed appreciation of the professional standards of the Pakistan Army and appreciated the sacrifices made in the war on terrorism.

The meeting indicated the desire of both Pakistan and Bangladesh to increase trust and cooperation in the coming years.
