Children trapped as flood water enters Abbottabad schools

ABBOTTABAD: Rain and intense floods continue to wreak havoc in northern parts of the country as water entered into several schools in Abbottabad, with hundreds of students trapped inside.

According to details, locals in the Galiyat’s Sajikot rescued school children from the floodwaters on their own without.

In Galiyat’s Topla School, female students were stranded following torrential rains as the flood water entered into the school premises.

The Rescue 1122 volunteers along with district administration, is actively engaged in ongoing relief operations.

Earlier today, authorities in Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, ordered the temporary closure of all schools and educational institutions due to a high flood alert.

Official notification issued here stated that all government and private schools will be closed on August 18 and 19, 2025. The objective is to ensure that students and staff are safe against possible flooding and landslides.

Prior to this, authorities in Murree also announced the closure of all schools for two days due to heavy rainfall. According to the CEO of the District Education Authority, schools will remain closed on Tuesday, August 19, and Wednesday, August 20.

The downpour has caused rivers and canals in Murree to overflow. Water has accumulated in areas such as Kahuta GPO Chowk and Mall Road. Landslides in Galiyat have also forced the closure of the main highway connecting Murree and Abbottabad.

Officials have warned of a possible cloudburst in the region. The local administration has issued alerts for both residents and tourists, urging caution. The Deputy Commissioner of Murree advised the public to avoid rivers and canals during this period.

Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next 24 to 48 hours. Citizens are encouraged to follow safety guidelines and stay updated on weather alerts.
