WEBDESK: Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif on Monday pledged full support for flood-hit communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan. He announced that he and the federal cabinet would donate one month’s salary to aid relief efforts.
Chairing a high level meeting, PM Sharif directed federal institutions to intensify relief and rehabilitation efforts. “This is not a time for politics, but a time for service,” he said, urging united action to help affected people.
The prime minister said the federal government will provide financial assistance to victims and families of the deceased under a special relief package. The Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan will supervise relief operations, while other federal ministers will monitor restoration of electricity, water, roads, and other essential services.
PM Sharif ordered cabinet members to personally visit affected areas. The National Highway Authority (NHA), Ministry of Communications, and Frontier Works Organization (FWO) were instructed to prioritise reopening roads and repairing highways and bridges.
Health services are being mobilised, with medical teams and camps set up. The Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) will assist flood victims through its social safety net.
NDMA presented a report on ongoing relief activities. So far, 456 relief camps have been established, and 400 rescue operations conducted. The prime minister directed an increase in the quantity of essential supplies.
Preliminary estimates show damages to public and private property exceeding Rs 126 million. Authorities warned that the monsoon season will continue until late September, with more heavy rain spells expected.
PM Shehbaz and other officials prayed for the deceased and called for speedy recovery of the injured.
