Web desk: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced a detailed traffic plan for August 13 and 14 to ensure smooth movement during the Independence Day and Marka-e-Haq national celebrations. With the main ceremony set at the Sports Complex.

Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt (R) Syed Zeeshan Haider said guests would follow colour-coded routes for entry. While several roads will be closed for regular traffic to maintain order and security.

According to the plan shared by the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Srinagar Highway from Serena Underpass to Zero Point will be closed in both directions. And heavy traffic will not be allowed to enter Islamabad and Rawalpindi from 3PM on August 13 until 5PM on August 14.

White Route 1: Guests coming from Jhelum, Mangla, and Rawalpindi’s Chaklala Scheme via Islamabad Expressway will pass Faizabad Flyover. Go to Kashmir Chowk through Murree Road, and enter through Gate 1.

White Route 2: Guests from DCI, Naval Headquarters, Air Headquarters, and Islamabad will go via DCI Shahin Chowk, Faisal Chowk, Constitution Avenue, D-Chowk. Take the U-turn at Srinagar Highway, and enter through Gate 1.

Red Route 1: Guests from Jhelum, Mangla, and Rawalpindi Cantonment will take the Islamabad Expressway to Faizabad. Head to I-8 Interchange, use the Jungle Track, and enter via Gates 3 and 4.

Red Route 2: Guests from Islamabad will travel on Faisal Avenue to Zero Point, continue to I-8 Interchange. Use the Jungle Track, and enter via Gates 3 and 4.

Green Routes 1 and 2: Guests will come from all sides to Faizabad Interchange, proceed along Murree Road past Tulip Hotel. And use the Jungle Track through Garden Avenue to reach Gate 6.

Blue and Yellow Routes 1 and 2: Guests will arrive at Zero Point, go via Srinagar Highway, and use Gate 2 until 7PM. Vehicles without drivers will be parked in the adjacent ground.

Which routes are open to use on August 14 in Islamabad

Road closures during the events include Murree Road via Shakarparian, Chand Tara Chowk, Garden Avenue I-8, I-8 Garden Bridge, G-7 Loop. And the Sports Complex turn on Murree Road. Diversions will be in place at Zero Point, Serena Hotel, and Khayaban-e-Suharwardy for both incoming and outgoing traffic.

Alternative routes will include Jinnah Avenue, Embassy Road, Serena Globe Chowk, Bhara Kahu, and Murree. From the Expressway, drivers may reach Kashmir Chowk and then onward to Murree. While entry into Islamabad will be possible from Ninth Avenue to Srinagar Highway.

Traffic from Murree will head to Rawalpindi and Islamabad via Kashmir Chowk and Faizabad. Garden Avenue will remain closed from 3PM on August 13.

CTO Zeeshan Haider urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel towards Shakarparian. Display event stickers on the left side of vehicle windscreens, carry their CNIC and invitation cards. And follow all security instructions.

He added that cameras, mobile phones, handbags, motorcycles, bicycles, and CNG-fitted vehicles will not be allowed entry. Only invited guests will be permitted inside the Sports Complex.
