CDA selects F-9 Park as the site for a new cricket stadium in Islamabad, according to media reports.

The Capital Development Authority has begun early planning and consultations on the project.

Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has been taken on board to give expert opinion. He will assist the CDA on design and technical matters for the stadium.

CDA selects F-9 Park with plan to protect green space

Officials are reviewing the Supreme Court’s past rulings on green areas before moving ahead.

One proposal under study is to keep most of the stadium footprint as green space, so public access and the park’s character are protected.

Reports say some enclosures could be designed with lawns and tree cover, similar to stadiums in South Africa and the West Indies.

The CDA may approach the Supreme Court for formal clearance before any ground work.

Legal caution follows earlier orders that halted a cricket stadium plan in Shakarparian.

Planners say lessons from that case will guide site layout, traffic flow, parking, and noise control, with a focus on low impact construction.

Rashid Latif’s involvement is aimed at making the design practical for players and fans.

He earlier played a role in the Islamabad Club project, and is expected to advise on sightlines, pitches, and training spaces.

For Islamabad residents, the idea is to add a modern venue without losing a major public park.

The CDA has indicated that community use, walking tracks and family areas will remain central to F-9 Park’s identity.

Next steps include legal vetting, concept designs, and an environmental review. If approvals are secured, detailed timelines and funding plans will be shared with the public.
