Web Desk: Pakistan Navy has launched its largest maritime exercise, Sea Spark 2026, in Karachi, bringing together naval, air and ground forces to test operational preparedness across multiple domains.
According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), on Wednesday, Sept. 2, the exercise began with an opening briefing chaired by the Chief of the Naval Staff. Senior officers from Pakistan’s armed forces attended the briefing.
The exercise is designed to evaluate the military’s ability to respond to conventional and emerging security threats while strengthening coordination among the country’s armed forces.
Before the opening briefing, the naval chief visited fleet units and reviewed their operational preparedness.
Addressing officers and personnel, he said the rapidly changing security environment required the navy to maintain a high level of readiness at all times.
He also expressed satisfaction with the operational preparedness of the participating units and stressed the importance of quick decision-making and coordinated responses during complex security situations.
Sea Spark 2026 involves a broad range of military assets, including warships, submarines, combat aircraft, unmanned aerial systems, marines and special forces.
In addition, personnel from the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Air Force are participating in the exercise, allowing the three services to rehearse joint operations and improve coordination.
The naval chief emphasized the need for effective integration among the services, particularly when responding to rapidly evolving threats.
Meanwhile, a key feature of Sea Spark 2026 is its focus on multi-domain operations.
The exercise incorporates maritime, air, land, cyber and space-related capabilities, reflecting the changing nature of modern warfare.
The participating forces are also testing their ability to operate in the information environment alongside conventional military operations. The exercise aims to assess how effectively commanders can make decisions and maintain operational advantages across different domains.
Pakistan Navy has regularly conducted Sea Spark exercises to assess its preparedness for evolving regional security challenges and potential maritime threats.
The exercise also provides an opportunity to test responses to threats such as piracy and potential aggression while improving the protection of Pakistan’s maritime interests.
The Indian Ocean’s strategic and economic importance makes the security of Pakistan’s sea lines of communication a major priority for the navy. At the same time, rapid advances in technologies such as drones, cyber systems and networked warfare have created new challenges for maritime forces.
Against that backdrop, Sea Spark 2026 provides a platform for Pakistan’s armed forces to assess their ability to respond to threats that extend beyond traditional battlefields.
The participation of the Army and Air Force underlines the emphasis on joint operations and greater interoperability among Pakistan’s military services.
The exercise is intended to ensure that the armed forces can coordinate their capabilities rather than operate independently during a complex security crisis.
With cyber, information and space-related elements incorporated alongside conventional maritime operations, Sea Spark 2026 reflects Pakistan Navy’s broader effort to adapt its operational planning to an increasingly technology-driven security environment.
