Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board has issued a formal notice to a member of its selection committee, seeking an explanation for the inclusion of Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq in Pakistan’s Test squad for tours of the West Indies and England in 2026.

The notice, issued by PCB Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed, asks the committee member to explain the reasoning, selection criteria and performance considerations behind the recommendations.

The board has given the official 24 hours from receipt of the notice to submit a written response.

The PCB notice specifically concerns Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq, who were shortlisted for inclusion in the Pakistan men’s national Test squad for the two overseas series.

According to the document, the selection committee member took part in a meeting held on June 2, 2026, where members were tasked with considering and selecting players for the Test squad.

The minutes of that meeting were submitted on July 1, according to the notice.

The PCB said the two players were subsequently shortlisted following the committee member’s recommendation.

The notice asks the selection committee member to set out the basis for recommending both players.

In particular, the PCB wants details of the criteria applied during the selection process, the players’ performances that were considered and any other factors that influenced the decision.

The board also asked for an explanation of how the committee arrived at its final recommendations.

The PCB has classified the matter as urgent and directed the committee member to respond within 24 hours.

The notice says the response must address each of the issues raised by the board and provide a clear written explanation.

The unusually short response period underlines the board’s demand for an immediate clarification over the selection decision.

The document seeks an explanation from the selection committee member but does not itself announce any disciplinary penalty or state that misconduct has been established.

Any further action by the PCB would depend on the response and the board’s subsequent assessment of the matter.

The notice was issued on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board by Sumair Ahmad Syed, its chief operating officer.

The development puts the selection process for Pakistan’s 2026 Test tours of England and the West Indies under renewed scrutiny, with the board seeking greater clarity over the considerations that led to the inclusion of Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq.
