The Meteorological Department has forecast more rain in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, raising questions about whether educational institutions will remain closed on September 2.
Heavy rain in the twin cities has flooded low-lying areas. Authorities have also been put on high alert after water levels in Nullah Lai reached dangerous levels.
Due to heavy rainfall and traffic disruptions on major roads, the Rawalpindi deputy commissioner announced a one-day holiday for all educational institutions on September 1, 2026, to ensure students’ safety.
The forecast of more rain has raised concerns among parents and students about a possible holiday on September 2.
However, the Rawalpindi district administration has not announced any further holiday. Therefore, schools and other educational institutions are expected to open as usual unless a new notification is issued.
On Tuesday, the Meteorological Department said Shamshabad received the highest rainfall at 201mm. New Katarian recorded 186mm, Golra 157mm, H-8 155mm and Saidpur 104mm.
Due to the heavy rain, the water level in Nullah Lai reached 29 feet at Katarian and 23.5 feet at Gawalmandi. Authorities then started evacuating nearby residents.
