Goods transport fares reduced by 10 percent

The All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association has announced a 10% reduction in freight charges following a Rs32 per litre cut in the price of diesel.

According to details, All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association President Nabeel Mahmood Tariq welcomed the government’s decision to reduce diesel prices, saying the move would lower the cost of transporting commercial goods and ease some of the difficulties being faced by the transport industry.

Nabeel Mahmood Tariq also urged the government to keep the reduction in transport fares in place for at least one week.

The government had announced major changes in petroleum product prices a day earlier, reducing the price of diesel by Rs32.63 per litre, while increasing the price of petrol by Rs2.97 per litre. A notification regarding the revised petroleum prices has also been issued.

According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs2.97 per litre, taking the new price to Rs337.51 per litre. Petrol was previously being sold at Rs334.54 per litre.

The significant reduction in diesel prices is expected to provide relief to transporters, farmers and several other sectors, as diesel prices have a direct impact on transportation and agricultural costs.

Earlier, speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik said the government was aware of the difficulties and hardships being faced by the public and was making efforts to provide possible relief without delay.

He said the decision regarding subsidies on petroleum products was also part of the government’s efforts to provide relief to the public.

Ali Pervaiz Malik added that the government’s ongoing efforts would eventually help the country overcome the difficult period. He said the government would take every possible step to protect the public, adding that an escalation in regional conflict had pushed up petroleum prices, while several countries were also facing challenges regarding diesel availability.
