Thousands of fans gathered outside Funchal Cathedral in Madeira after a rumor spread that Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo was getting married. After waiting for several hours, they were shocked to discover that the wedding was actually for another couple.
According to Express News, rumors about the marriage of Ronaldo and his girlfriend Georgina Rodríguez had been circulating on social media in recent days. However, neither has officially confirmed the reports.
The rumor claimed that Ronaldo was due to get married in Madeira on Saturday, prompting thousands of fans to head to Funchal Cathedral hoping to see their favorite footballer as a groom.
After several hours of waiting, when the bride and groom emerged from the church, fans were left surprised. It was not Ronaldo and Georgina, but Portuguese couple Fabio Ramos and Fatima Nicole Cunha Teixeira, who live in France and had travelled to Portugal for their wedding.
The newlyweds and their guests were also surprised to see thousands of people gathered outside the church.
Ronaldo’s sister, Elma Aveiro, reacted to a video of the crowd, questioning why fans had believed the wedding rumor without any announcement from the family.
Ronaldo himself also reacted to footage of the crowd with laughing emojis.
Although Ronaldo and Georgina have not confirmed their marriage, British and Portuguese media continue to report that Funchal Cathedral could potentially be the venue for their wedding ceremony.
