The federal government has approved a unified online system for the issuance of international driving permits across the country, under which citizens will be able to apply from home.
Alongside this, police clearance certificates will also be issued through the National Police Bureau’s digital portal to significantly reduce time, costs, and unnecessary official procedures.
Major Change in International Driving Permit System
A unified and fully online system for issuing international driving permits across the country was approved during a meeting at the National Police Bureau chaired by Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
The decision aims to introduce a uniform procedure across all provinces and relevant institutions so that citizens do not have to face different rules and complicated processes in different areas.
The Interior Minister said the new digital facility would be particularly beneficial for people travelling abroad for education, employment, business, or tourism who need an international driving permit within a short period.
Police Clearance Certificate Also Available From Home
The meeting also decided that the process for obtaining police clearance certificates would be made completely online. For this purpose, the National Police Bureau’s portal will be used, allowing citizens to submit applications from home and obtain their documents after completing the required procedure.
The initiative is expected to reduce repeated visits to offices, long waiting times, unnecessary paperwork, and loss of time. It will also improve transparency, record monitoring, and the speed of services.
Emphasis on Making National Police Bureau an Active Institution
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi said making the National Police Bureau an active, modern, and dynamic institution is among the government’s priorities.
He also reviewed the ongoing renovation work at the bureau’s building and received briefings on various reform measures and digital projects.
The Interior Minister directed that convenience, speed, and transparency in public services must be ensured so that a system in line with modern requirements can be developed.
Time Saved, Relief From Office Visits
Many citizens had to visit several offices to submit applications, verify documents, and obtain approval, resulting in a waste of both time and resources.
Over the past few years, the government has been pursuing a policy of shifting various public services to digital platforms so that people can receive faster, easier, and more transparent services through a single platform. The latest decision is being described as an important step in the same direction.
The online issuance of international driving permits and police clearance certificates is not merely an administrative change but an important development towards the digital transformation of public services.
If the system is implemented effectively, complete coordination is maintained among all provinces, and strong digital infrastructure is provided for the timely processing of applications, citizens are expected to benefit significantly.
The initiative will not only reduce pressure on government offices but also improve transparency, accountability, and secure record management.
Success of the Project Depends on Implementation
However, the success of the project will depend on ensuring that the online portal remains operational at all times, applications are processed promptly, citizens’ data is protected, and users in remote areas also have equal access to the facility.
If these aspects are effectively implemented, the project could prove to be an important milestone in the delivery of public services.
