Summer vacations

As the long summer holidays come to an end, one of the biggest concerns for most parents is how to prepare their children for returning to the routine of school.

After spending several weeks enjoying freedom and a relaxed schedule, suddenly waking up early, getting ready on time, and taking on academic responsibilities is not easy for children. According to experts, parents can make this transition much smoother by adopting a few simple habits.

Experts say the first priority should be restoring children’s sleep schedule. A few days before schools reopen, children should gradually get used to going to bed on time and waking up early. Children aged 6 to 13 need 9 to 11 hours of sleep each day, while those aged 13 to 17 require 8 to 10 hours. Adequate sleep not only restores physical energy but also keeps children mentally refreshed.

Experts also advise parents to keep children away from mobile phones, tablets, computers, and other electronic devices for at least one hour before bedtime. During this time, parents should have positive conversations about school, teachers, friends, and upcoming activities to help children mentally prepare for returning to class.

Starting the school day with a healthy breakfast is equally important. A nutritious breakfast improves children’s attention, memory, and learning ability. Fruits, milk, eggs, oatmeal, bread, and other balanced foods help keep them active and energetic throughout the day.

Educational experts also recommend that parents talk to their children every day about school activities, classmates, lessons, and sports. Such conversations boost children’s confidence, encourage them to share any concerns openly, and help maintain their interest in school.

Experts further stress that parents should lead by example by maintaining discipline at home. When the household follows regular sleeping, waking, and mealtime schedules, children are more likely to adopt the same habits, as they learn primarily from their parents and home environment.

According to experts, returning to school should be presented as a positive and enjoyable experience rather than something stressful or punitive. With encouragement, affection, and consistency, children can quickly readjust to their routine and begin the new academic year with confidence.
