Web Desk: Toyota has refreshed its Crown lineup for the 2027 model year, introducing upgraded hybrid technology, revised styling and additional standard features as the Japanese automaker seeks to strengthen the appeal of its premium sedan-crossover in the electrified vehicle segment.
The updated range brings the fifth-generation Toyota Hybrid System (THS 5) to the XLE, Limited and Nightshade grades, while the flagship Platinum continues with the more powerful Hybrid MAX powertrain. All variants retain standard all-wheel drive.
Toyota said the XLE, Limited and Nightshade models now pair a 2.5-litre petrol engine with front and rear electric motors through the latest THS 5 hybrid system. The upgrade is designed to improve responsiveness while maintaining an EPA-estimated combined fuel economy of 40 miles per gallon.
Moreover, the three grades now receive paddle shifters as standard, giving drivers greater control and a sportier driving experience.
Meanwhile, the Platinum grade continues to use the Hybrid MAX powertrain, which combines a turbocharged 2.4-litre engine with a six-speed automatic transmission. The system delivers 340 combined horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque, targeting buyers seeking higher performance.
Toyota has also revised the Crown’s exterior for 2027 with a redesigned rear bumper and additional gloss-black detailing.
A new black exterior colour, called Inked, joins the existing palette, while hybrid and all-wheel-drive badges adopt a satin finish. Furthermore, the Platinum grade now comes with standard red brake calipers, black window surrounds and an updated bi-tone paint scheme featuring a body-coloured boot paired with a black roof.
The Nightshade edition further expands its dark-themed appearance through new black badge overlays and distinctive black exterior accents.
Inside the cabin, Toyota has introduced Saddle Tan upholstery to the Limited grade as standard, while the same interior option is now available on the Platinum variant.
The automaker has also expanded the availability of premium convenience features. The Limited grade now includes a Panoramic View Monitor, Digital Key capability and Traffic Jam Assist as standard equipment.
Toyota said the Crown continues to offer two all-wheel-drive systems depending on the powertrain.
The hybrid-powered XLE, Limited and Nightshade grades use an Electronic On-Demand AWD system that engages a rear-mounted electric motor when additional traction is required.
By contrast, the Platinum grade features Full-Time Electronic AWD integrated with the Hybrid MAX system, continuously distributing torque between the front and rear wheels to improve stability and handling.
Drivers across the lineup can choose from Normal, Eco, Sport and Custom drive modes, while the Platinum grade also adds a Rear Comfort mode aimed at enhancing ride quality for rear-seat occupants.
Every 2027 Crown comes equipped with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia touchscreen supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
The Limited, Nightshade and Platinum grades receive an 11-speaker JBL premium audio system, while over-the-air software updates, dual Bluetooth phone connectivity and multiple connected services remain available.
Toyota has also expanded Digital Key functionality to the Limited grade, enabling compatible smartphones to unlock and start the vehicle through an active Remote Connect subscription.
The entire lineup is equipped with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which includes features such as a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, dynamic radar cruise control, lane tracing assist and proactive driving assist.
Additional standard safety equipment includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit alert and a rear seat reminder.
The 2027 Toyota Crown will be offered in four grades with the following U.S. manufacturer’s suggested retail prices, excluding a destination and handling charge of $1,295:

Toyota said the 2027 Crown will continue to be manufactured at its Tsutsumi plant in Japan.
The model is backed by Toyota’s standard new-vehicle warranty, including hybrid component coverage of eight years or 100,000 miles and hybrid battery coverage of 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. Buyers will also receive ToyotaCare scheduled maintenance for one year or 10,000 miles and two years of unlimited-mileage roadside assistance.
