Fact check: claims of heavy military casualties in Mastung denied

BLA false claims denied

Social media accounts operated by Indian sponsored Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), have claimed that its militants ambushed a security forces convoy in Mastung, Balochistan, killing 45 security personnel.

However, a review of the available evidence and ground realities show the claim is false. According to authentic information from local authorities and law enforcement agencies, the incident actually happened with civilian passenger buses after militants failed to extort money from transporters. Security forces later reached the scene, came under attack, and eliminated at least eight militants during involved in the attack on civilian bus.

The viral posts describe the alleged convoy attack as the main event and claim that the militants inflicted heavy losses on security forces. Officials, however, say the sequence of events was contrary to logic and far from facts.

It is worth noting that security forces have constantly been targeting BLA militants and their hideouts. In utter frustration the militants have started targeting innocent civilians and their properties.

In a most recent attack, the Indian backed BLA hurled a hand grenade on Madrasa in Quetta in which two children were martyred.

Security officials stated that the terrorist group is in a situation of flee and the morale of the forces is very strong. They further stressed that sanitization operations will continue until the last terrorist is eliminated.

According to Security officials operation Shaban continues with full force, a large-scale military campaign involving the Army, Frontier Corps, Balochistan Police, and air support to dismantle militant networks across Balochistan.

The operation was launched after a July 7 militant attack in Mangi Dam that killed 27 police personnel, with security forces reporting the deaths of around 123 militants since the campaign began.

Security sources say that the campaign is targeting Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) elements in northern districts and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and separatist groups in southern areas.
