Pakistani new features

A major announcement has been made for individuals wishing to obtain an e-passport, with the government unveiling a new fee structure.

According to details, the Government of Pakistan has accelerated the transition from conventional passports to e-passports. The modern e-passport will contain an embedded electronic chip storing the holder’s biometric and personal data, and will comply with the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The e-passport will feature an NFC chip, laser engraving, infrared and ultraviolet security features, making identity verification and authentication at airports more secure and efficient.

The new e-passport fully complies with international standards, allowing Pakistani travellers to use e-gates at airports around the world and avoid lengthy immigration queues.

Cash payments have been discontinued at passport offices across the country, with the fee collection system now fully online and cashless. As a result, citizens will no longer need to make repeated visits to passport offices to collect their passports.

The government has also announced the new e-passport fee structure for 2026.

Under the revised rates, the fee for a 36-page e-passport valid for five years is Rs9,000 for normal processing and Rs15,000 for urgent processing. For a 36-page e-passport valid for 10 years, the fee is Rs13,500 for normal processing and Rs22,500 for urgent processing.

For a 72-page e-passport valid for five years, the fee is Rs16,500 for normal processing and Rs27,000 for urgent processing. For a 72-page e-passport valid for 10 years, the fee is Rs24,750 for normal processing and Rs40,500 for urgent processing.

According to officials, the introduction of the e-passport will enhance security, strengthen border management, and provide Pakistani citizens, particularly overseas Pakistanis, with faster and more modern travel facilities.
