Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has secured a major opportunity in English county cricket after receiving his British passport, with Nottinghamshire signing him for the remainder of the 2026 Vitality Blast T20 season.
According to a statement issued by Nottinghamshire, the 34-year-old left-arm pacer has signed a short-term deal and will be available for the remaining group-stage matches as well as the knockout stages should the team qualify.
Following the acquisition of British citizenship, Amir will now be classified as a local player in county cricket rather than an overseas signing. This gives Nottinghamshire greater flexibility in squad selection, allowing the club to field Amir alongside South African all-rounder George Linde and Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Ali without using an overseas-player slot.
Expressing his delight at joining the club, Amir said he had always heard great things about the historic county and had many fond memories of playing at Trent Bridge. He added that he looks forward to entertaining the fans and helping the team achieve success.
Nottinghamshire head coach Peter Moores described Amir as a world-class, highly experienced fast bowler who excels during the powerplay and at the death. He said Amir’s ability to perform under pressure makes him a valuable asset for any team.
Amir has previously represented Essex, Gloucestershire, and Derbyshire in county cricket and has also featured for London Spirit, Oval Invincibles, and Northern Superchargers in The Hundred.
The former Pakistan international last represented his country at the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With British citizenship now secured, more opportunities are expected to open up for him in English domestic cricket.
