Senator Mushtaq Ahmed has decided to withdraw his planned visit to Rawalakot AJK after a comprehensive dialogue with govt authorities.
According to govt sources, Senator Mushtaq has decided to cancel his trip to Rawalakot and will soon return to Islamabad,
Before this, Senator Mushtaq had announced in a post on the social media platform X that on June 23 he would visit from Islamabad to Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir.
He had added that he would visit Azad Kashmir in view of the status quo and would covey the people of AJK a message of brotherhood, goodwill and peace.
“The Government of Pakistan and the Government of Azad Kashmir should immediately implement the agreement of October 4, 2025, with the Jammu and Kashmir Joint Action Committee,” he had further added in his post.
On the other hand, the banned Awami Action Committee has withdrawn its call for a protest in Muzaffarabad on the 9th of Muharram.
According to sources, the decision was made after a lack of public participation and the rejection of the protest call by the people of Kashmir, forcing the banned organization to cancel its proposed protest programme.
Following the banned Awami Action Committee’s anti-state narrative, conscious and patriotic Kashmiris rejected the group’s call for protest, after which the committee decided to withdraw its planned demonstration in Muzaffarabad on 9th Muharram.
Sources said that after the committee’s statements against the state and national institutions, local residents distanced themselves from the protest call, making the programme appear practically ineffective.
The sources further stated that despite preparations for the protest, a large number of citizens refrained from participating and rejected the politics of unrest and violence, rendering the planned demonstration ineffective.
Taking into account the prevailing circumstances and the public’s lack of interest, the banned Awami Action Committee was ultimately compelled to withdraw its protest schedule as it appeared increasingly unlikely to succeed.
The administration had already completed security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. However, with the protest officially called off, the situation remained peaceful. Public circles also expressed satisfaction over the cancellation, describing it as a return to normalcy.
