PM Shehbaz Sharif, along with his team, has left for Pakistan from Zunich airport Switzerland after the successful completion of the first round of technical talks between US and Iran.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, participated on 21 June 2026 in high-level talks held in Bürgenstock, Switzerland regarding the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.
At Zurich Airport, senior Swiss officials and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Murghub Saleem Butt, saw off the Prime Minister.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed satisfaction over the significant progress in Iran–US talks, stating that a high-level committee meeting held under a memorandum of understanding concluded successfully in the Swiss city of Burgnestock.
In his statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the discussions were held in a positive and constructive atmosphere, resulting in encouraging progress. The parties agreed on a roadmap to reach a final agreement within the next 60 days. It was also decided to establish a high-level committee for political oversight and guidance, while further technical negotiations have already begun.
The Prime Minister praised the leadership of both the United States and Iran for their continued commitment to constructive engagement and dialogue, and expressed gratitude to all friendly and brotherly countries that supported the process. He especially thanked the brotherly country Qatar, saying its support in creating a conducive environment for the talks was extremely important and decisive. He also thanked the Swiss government for hosting and facilitating the negotiations.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also paid special tribute to Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, stating that his tireless efforts played a key role in the success of these talks. He said that Field Marshal Asim Munir’s dedication, commitment, and perseverance were highly commendable and that without his efforts, no progress in this process would have been possible.
He also appreciated the diplomatic efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and the Foreign Office team. The Prime Minister further acknowledged the services of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, stating that he played a significant role in the success of the negotiations.
Reaffirming Pakistan’s position, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the country will continue to play its sincere and responsible role in promoting dialogue and diplomacy for sustainable and peaceful solutions in the region and the world.
