Web Desk: Pakistani actor and television host Ali Safina has cleared the air regarding his alleged role in the high-profile breakup of singer Asim Azhar and actress Merub Ali, shifting the blame onto an online content creator for blowing a lighthearted joke out of proportion.

Appearing on the morning show Rise and Shine with host Nadia Khan, Safina addressed a wave of public backlash stemming from a viral podcast episode. During that previous show, Safina sang a song that referenced Hania Aamir, Azhar’s former partner, while interviewing Ali. The moment triggered intense speculation among fans, with many accusing Safina of instigating the celebrity couple’s ultimate split.

When Nadia Khan asked directly if his “Hania Dil Jania” comment caused the breakup, Safina firmly rejected the narrative. He emphasized that the entertainment industry peers share a close, supportive bond behind the scenes.

“We are all very good friends,” Ali Safina said. “I have worked with her previously, so I simply asked a question. When we work together in this industry, we naturally develop a great camaraderie. I asked a playful question, and she replied in good fun.”

According to Safina, the genuine issue began only after a social media commentator, identified as Abdullah, created a dedicated video targeting the interaction. This commentary ignited a fierce public backlash, though fans quickly turned on the video creator instead of the actors.

Ali Safina noted that internet users immediately called out the commentator for meddling in private affairs. He revealed that viewers exposed the creator’s hypocrisy by pointing out that he had written a book about his own ex-partner.

“I dug into it myself and it turned out to be completely true,” Safina shared during the broadcast. “Imagine, the very guy who manufactured this entire scandal did exactly that. It is just like Reham Khan. Does that make any sense?”

Safina, who initially gained prominence through the popular Suno Chanda and Baraat comedy series, is married to model and actress Hira Tareen. While Asim Azhar and Meerub Ali formally wiped their social media profiles of shared photos following their split, Safina maintains that his viral podcast interview was nothing more than harmless workplace banter.
