Hania Ahmed Case: CCD Officer Faces Murder Charge

Web Desk: Police have upgraded charges to murder in the case involving the death of a 9-year-old Australian citizen, as investigations continue into a shooting incident in Punjab’s Chakwal district.

Authorities initially registered the case under negligent homicide provisions. However, investigators later added Section 302 of Pakistan’s Penal Code, which pertains to murder, after reviewing forensic evidence and other material gathered during the inquiry.

Police said a Counter Crime Department (CCD) officer named in the case remains in custody. Officials added that a rifle allegedly used in the shooting has been recovered from the accused.

The child, identified as Hania Ahmed, was killed during a firing incident earlier this month when a Pakistan-based Australian family came under gunfire following a reported robbery attempt. Her father and brother were also seriously injured in the incident.

Authorities initially described the episode as occurring during a pursuit of suspected robbers. However, a subsequent review of CCTV footage and additional evidence led investigators to register a case against a CCD officer.

Police have since transferred the investigation from the local station to a specialized unit, while a joint investigation team led by Senior Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sajid Gondal continues to examine multiple angles of the case.

The incident has drawn international attention after Australian media reported on the child’s death and injuries to her family, prompting interest from Australian authorities as well.
