Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held important meetings with the interior ministers of five countries, including Russia, and reached agreements on several key issues.
On the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Interior Ministers’ Meeting, Mohsin Naqvi met separately with the interior ministers of Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in security, counter-terrorism, combating illegal immigration and anti-narcotics efforts.
During his meeting with Russian Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, important agreements were signed between Pakistan and Russia on preventing illegal immigration, repatriating illegally residing citizens and strengthening cooperation in anti-narcotics initiatives.
In talks with Tajik Interior Minister Ramazon Rahimzoda, both sides discussed security concerns arising from terrorist organizations, militant camps and narcotics production in Afghanistan. The two leaders agreed that terrorism and drug-related activities in Afghanistan pose a threat to the entire region.
During a meeting with Uzbek Interior Minister Aziz Tashpulatov, the two sides discussed cooperation between law enforcement agencies and joint training programs. They also agreed to establish a working group to improve coordination between their respective ministries.
In his meeting with Kyrgyz Interior Minister Niyazbek Olan Omokanov, both countries agreed to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Mohsin Naqvi congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council and thanked his counterpart for the successful arrangements of the SCO meeting.
During discussions with Kazakh Interior Minister Yerzhan Sadenov, both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation on security matters and the prevention of illegal immigration. They also decided to establish a joint working group at the ministry level to enhance coordination between the two countries.
