Putin counters Indian journalist's Pakistan narrative

Web Desk: Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected the notion that Pakistan operates under China’s influence, describing the South Asian nation as an independent country with diverse international partnerships.

Speaking during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, Putin responded to a question from an Indian journalist regarding Pakistan’s relationship with China.

“It is incorrect to say that Pakistan is under China’s influence,” Putin said. “Pakistan is a major country and maintains relations with various nations.”

Putin’s remarks came as regional alliances and geopolitical partnerships continue to draw international attention amid shifting global dynamics.

During the discussion, Putin also highlighted Russia’s long-standing military cooperation with China.

He said Moscow has consistently worked with Beijing in the defense sector and intends to continue that cooperation in the future.

The Russian leader did not indicate any change in the strategic partnership between the two countries, which has expanded across economic, military and diplomatic spheres in recent years.

Meanwhile, Putin described Russia’s relationship with Iran as one based on trust.
