Australia has started dreaming of winning an ODI series in Pakistan for the first time in 28 years.
According to details, Pakistan and Australia will face off in the decisive match of their three-match ODI series in Lahore today.
The Australian team has not won an ODI series in Pakistan since 1998. However, this period also includes a 24-year gap during which Australia did not play any cricket in Pakistan.
On the other hand, Pakistan has suffered defeat in a bilateral ODI series at home only once since 2015.
Australia lost their previous two ODI series (home and away) against Pakistan by a 2-1 margin. However, this time the poor form of Pakistan’s senior batters could prove to be a golden opportunity for the visitors.
Australia’s Nathan Ellis has emerged as Babar Azam’s biggest nemesis in recent times. He has dismissed Babar three times in just five ODIs, a record that places him among the few bowlers who have managed to dismiss the Pakistan star so frequently in a single format.
Shaheen Afridi achieves unique milestone in ODI against Australia
With this achievement, Shaheen Afridi has joined the list of Pakistan’s two legendary former captains, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis.
Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler and captain Shaheen Shah Afridi achieved a unique milestone in the ODI against Australia. Shaheen Afridi became the third captain from Pakistan to take a wicket on the very first ball of an innings in One Day Internationals.
In the Lahore match, Shaheen Shah Afridi achieved a historic feat by dismissing Australian opener Alex Carey on the very first ball of the innings. Carey lost his wicket while attempting to play an outswinging delivery outside the off stump.
With this achievement, Shaheen Afridi joined the elite list of Pakistan’s two legendary former captains, Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis. Before him, Wasim Akram had dismissed Zimbabwe’s Andy Flower on the first ball of an innings in Karachi in 1993, while Waqar Younis achieved the same feat by taking the wicket of England’s Marcus Trescothick in Leeds in 2001.
Shaheen did not limit his performance to just that first-ball wicket; he also delivered an excellent spell, taking three wickets for 36 runs in eight overs.
