Committee Advances Bill to Dissolve Parliament by 8-0 Vote; New Elections Possible in September or October

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing a deep political crisis, putting his government’s future in jeopardy.

According to Israeli media reports, members of the parliamentary House Committee voted overwhelmingly, by 8-0, in favor of advancing a bill to dissolve the Israeli parliament, the Knesset.
The bill is set to be presented in parliament today for its First Reading.

Amid serious divisions within the ruling coalition, the committee chairman stated that the legislation is being advanced without a final election date for now. A date is expected to be added during the final stages of the legislative process.

However, preliminary discussions suggest that potential election dates could fall between September 8 and October 26, 2026.

Under Israeli law, if the bill to dissolve parliament is ultimately approved, the government will be required to hold new national elections within five months.

It is worth noting that Prime Minister Netanyahu is fighting for his political survival and is seeking to avoid early elections at all costs.

The political turmoil has been largely triggered by growing tensions within Netanyahu’s coalition, particularly over contentious domestic issues and lack of trust among key coalition partners.

Is believed that if the coalition fails to maintain its parliamentary majority, Israel could once again head toward new polls, bringing further uncertainty to the country’s political landscape at a time of significant security and economic challenges.
