Pakistan Railways has launched a new Awam Express train service from Peshawar to Karachi, aiming to improve long-distance travel facilities across the country.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Peshawar Cantt Railway Station by Secretary and Chairman Railways Syed Mazhar Ali Shah, and former cricketer Shahid Afridi also attended the event.
The upgraded Awam Express is equipped with modern facilities, including eight air-conditioned coaches, comfortable seating, and other passenger amenities. The train has a total capacity of 1,234 passengers.
The first upgraded service departed from Peshawar at around 8:30 AM for Karachi. It will travel through major cities including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Khanewal, Multan, Bahawalpur, Khanpur, Liaquatpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Daharki, Pano Aqil, Rohri, Nawabshah, Tando Adam, and Hyderabad before reaching Karachi.
Speaking at the inauguration, Syed Mazhar Ali Shah said that Pakistan Railways’ services will continue without interruption and that both services and business operations are strengthening.
Shahid Afridi expressed sorrow over the Quetta incident and extended condolences to the victims’ families. He congratulated Pakistan Railways on the launch of the new train service and also mentioned that a water filtration plant has been installed at the cantt station by the Shahid Afridi Foundation.
