Pakistan has once again become the center of global attention for facilitating a possible agreement between the United States and Iran. Following the diplomatic efforts and Iran visit of FM Asim Munir, prospects for a US-Iran agreement have reportedly been revived, with high-level talks between the two countries expected to begin in the coming days.
According to the report, negotiations between the two sides could take place in Islamabad under Pakistan’s mediation. A formal schedule is expected to be finalized soon after consultations with both countries. Diplomatic sources said that instead of open diplomatic engagement, the US and Iran are currently communicating through backchannel diplomacy.
In this regard, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reportedly held two rounds of meetings, followed by discussions during the Field Marshal’s Iran visit with senior Iranian government officials. These developments have strengthened the possibility of another round of US-Iran negotiations being hosted in Islamabad.
There is also a possibility that formal talks at the level of high-ranking delegations may begin in the coming days, likely after Eid-ul-Adha. Diplomatic circles say Pakistan is trying to ensure that the negotiation process is completed during this round.
If necessary, additional sessions may also be held. Pakistan is reportedly aiming to secure agreement on the draft deal before the official start of negotiations.
Rapid progress is said to be taking place on this front. Diplomatic sources added that if all issues are settled during the final round of talks, the presidents or other senior figures from both countries could participate in the signing ceremony of the agreement.
Not all matters related to the negotiations will be disclosed to the media. Diplomatic circles described the Field Marshal’s diplomatic efforts as a major diplomatic success for Pakistan, while adding that negotiation options and arrangements could still be adjusted depending on the evolving situation.
