Web Desk: Government has announced a three-day public holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, according to an official notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

The notification stated that Prime Minister Prime Minister of Pakistan approved May 26, 27 and 28, 2026 falling on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as public holidays for Eid celebrations across the country.

The Cabinet Division issued the notification on Tuesday from Islamabad as a continuation of the government’s earlier circular regarding public and optional holidays for the year 2026.

Authorities said the decision applies nationwide and directed the Press Information Department to ensure wide publicity through English and Urdu newspapers as well as electronic media outlets.

The announcement is expected to trigger a surge in travel activity as millions of people prepare to return to their hometowns to celebrate Eid-ul-Azha with their families.

Transport terminals, railway stations and airports are likely to witness increased passenger traffic in the days leading up to the holidays, while markets across major cities are expected to see a rise in shopping activity ahead of the religious festival.

Meanwhile, government offices, educational institutions and several private businesses are expected to remain closed during the notified holiday period.

Eid-ul-Azha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant religious occasions observed by Muslims worldwide. The festival commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
