Test series whitewash

Web Desk: Bangladesh completed a dominant Test series whitewash over Pakistan after securing a 78-run victory in the second Test in Sylhet, powered by Mushfiqur Rahim’s century and Taijul Islam’s devastating spin attack.

Chasing a daunting target of 437 runs, Pakistan were bowled out for 358 on the final day despite fighting half-centuries from captain Shan Masood and Salman Agha, along with a valiant 94 by Mohammad Rizwan.

However, Bangladesh spinner Taijul Islam dismantled Pakistan’s batting lineup with a match-winning six-wicket haul in the second innings. He removed key batters including Babar Azam, Salman Agha, Hasan Ali, Sajid Khan and Khurram Shehzad to seal Bangladesh’s historic triumph.

Meanwhile, young pacer Nahid Rana claimed two crucial wickets, while Shoriful Islam dismissed Rizwan at a critical stage to extinguish Pakistan’s hopes of a comeback.

Earlier, Bangladesh strengthened their position by posting 390 runs in their second innings. Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim anchored the innings with a superb 137, while Litton Das contributed an important 69 runs.

Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy also provided Bangladesh with a solid start after scoring 52 runs.

For Pakistan, Khurram Shehzad picked up four wickets and Sajid Khan claimed three, but the visitors failed to contain Bangladesh’s batting attack as the hosts set an imposing fourth-innings target.

Bangladesh Dominate Across All Departments

In the first innings, Bangladesh scored 278 runs, largely driven by Litton Das’s impressive 126. Pakistan responded with 232, with former captain Babar Azam top-scoring with 68 runs.

Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam starred with the ball in the first innings as well, taking three wickets each to put Bangladesh in control of the match.

The series victory is being hailed as one of Bangladesh’s most significant achievements in recent Test cricket history. The hosts outclassed Pakistan comprehensively with disciplined batting, effective pace bowling and relentless spin throughout the series.
