The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued an alert forecasting rain, thunderstorms, and possible hailstorms across several parts of Pakistan over the next 24 hours.
According to the advisory, rain is expected in upper Punjab including Islamabad, Murree, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, and Mandi Bahauddin. Similar weather conditions are also likely in various districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa such as Chitral, Dir, Swat, Kalam, Mingora, Malakand, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Charsadda, Kohat, Karak, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan.
In Balochistan, rain is also expected in Quetta, Zhob, Ziarat, Killa Saifullah, Killa Abdullah, Chaman, Pishin, and Sibi. Meanwhile, areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir including Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Diamer, Gilgit, Ghanche, Astore, Kharmang, Shigar, Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Haveli, Poonch, and Neelum Valley are also likely to receive rainfall.
The alert further warned that thunderstorms, strong winds, and hailstorms may damage weak structures, trees, standing crops, and electricity infrastructure. Authorities cautioned that roads may become slippery, leading to traffic disruptions.
Citizens have been advised to take precautions during severe weather, avoid standing near weak structures, trees, and power installations, and remain cautious during storms and strong winds.
NDMA has also directed the provincial disaster management authorities to remain on alert to meet any unforeseen situation and emergencies.
Moreover, Rescue 1122 wings have also been directed to remain on alert and operational to tackle emergencies caused by storms and rain. All emergency numbers have been shared with public by notices and other news updates.
