Web Desk: Bangladesh scripted history on home soil by defeating Pakistan in a Test match for the first time and completing a rare “hat-trick” of victories against the touring side in the longest format of the game, as they secured a 104-run win in the opening Test in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Bangladesh set Pakistan a target of 268 runs after declaring their second innings at 240 for nine just before the lunch break on the final day of the match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium.

However, Pakistan’s batting lineup collapsed under pressure as the visitors were bowled out for 163, falling well short and handing Bangladesh a commanding victory.

As a result, the hosts went 1-0 up in the two-match series while also marking their first-ever Test win against Pakistan at home.

Pakistan’s chase never gained momentum as the top order struggled to build partnerships. Captain Shan Masood once again failed to deliver, continuing a poor run in the match, while several batters fell to loose shots under pressure.

Abdullah Shafique stood out in an otherwise disappointing batting display, top-scoring for Pakistan with 66 runs. In addition, Salman Ali Agha made 26, while Azan Awais, Saud Shakeel and Mohammad Rizwan managed only 15 runs each. Notably, five Pakistani batters failed to reach double figures, exposing the depth of the collapse.

Bangladesh’s bowling attack maintained relentless pressure in the final innings. Nahid Rana led the charge with a five-wicket haul, dismantling the Pakistan batting order and sealing the outcome in his team’s favor.

Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam chipped in with two wickets each, ensuring sustained breakthroughs throughout the innings.

With this win, Bangladesh not only registered their maiden home Test victory over Pakistan but also completed a third consecutive Test win against them, continuing their recent dominance.

Previously, Bangladesh had whitewashed Pakistan 2-0 during their 2024 tour in Pakistan, marking a turning point in their head-to-head record. Until then, Pakistan had remained unbeaten against Bangladesh in Test cricket.
