Trump insists ceasefire holds despite new strikes inside Iran

Web Desk: Iran said it launched missiles toward U.S. military ships in the Strait of Hormuz early Friday, escalating tensions in the Gulf despite continued claims from both sides that a ceasefire remains in effect.

Iranian media reported exchanges of fire near Qeshm Island, where explosions struck the Bahman port area. The port serves as a major logistical hub for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and supports fast attack boat operations in the strategic waterway.

Fars News said parts of the commercial section of Bahman Port sustained damage during what it described as clashes between Iranian forces and “enemy targets.”

At the same time, Israeli officials denied involvement in the explosions reported inside Iran. The incidents fueled speculation about a broader regional escalation after recent strikes near Bandar Abbas and Qeshm port.

A U.S. official later said Washington does not plan to restart the war or end the current ceasefire arrangement with Iran, despite military action reported near Iranian coastal facilities.

President Donald Trump also said the ceasefire “is still in effect” following the latest strikes.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Traders reacted quickly to the developments, sending global oil prices up about 4% amid fears of supply disruptions and wider conflict across the Gulf region.

Military analysts said any direct confrontation near the narrow waterway could threaten international shipping and energy exports from major producers in the Middle East.

Neither the Pentagon nor Iranian military officials released details about damage, casualties or the exact nature of the reported missile launches.

Regional tensions have remained high for weeks following a series of maritime incidents, drone attacks and military deployments around the Gulf. However, diplomats from several countries continue to push for de-escalation as concerns grow over the impact on global energy markets and commercial shipping.
