Web Desk: The Punjab government eased lockdown restrictions on Tuesday, exempting gyms, sports centers, IT companies, and call centers from existing provincial curbs to revitalize economic activity.

The Services and General Administration Department issued a formal notification to implement the decision, marking a significant shift in the province’s strategy to balance public safety with commercial necessity.

Authorities originally imposed the lockdown following security concerns and a sensitive regional situation. These measures halted various business and social activities, creating substantial hurdles for the youth, freelancers, and professionals within the technology sector. Furthermore, the closure of fitness facilities restricted physical activities for citizens and caused financial strain for gym owners and trainers.

The IT sector and call centers faced particular challenges during the shutdown, as many firms struggled to transition their entire operations to remote setups. Economists note that because the technology sector serves as a primary source of foreign exchange for the country, its restoration remains vital for national economic health.

Fitness industry stakeholders and fitness enthusiasts welcomed the announcement, stating that the reopening will restore livelihoods and encourage healthy lifestyles. Similarly, the freelancing community praised the move, expressing hope for a phased lifting of restrictions in other sectors.

While the public response remains largely positive, some observers urged caution. They emphasized that while economic relief is necessary, organizations must maintain vigilance to mitigate potential risks associated with the security environment.

Government officials described the step as part of a balanced strategy. By granting these exemptions, the administration aims to restore daily routines gradually while addressing the security requirements that prompted the initial restrictions.
