Web Desk: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched the Rahmat Card programme to provide direct financial assistance to widows and orphaned children across the province, according to an official statement.

The initiative aims to support 50,000 families under the welfare scheme. Authorities said the government will transfer funds through digital payment services.

Under the programme, widows will receive 100,000 rupees each. Orphaned children will also receive 100,000 rupees per eligible case. The government will disburse payments through JazzCash to ensure direct and transparent transfers.

The government outlined specific eligibility conditions for registration. Widows must have “widow” status recorded on their national identity card. They must also belong to a low-income household and should not be receiving any other government financial assistance. In addition, applicants must not be government employees or pensioners.

For orphaned children, guardians must register the child along with a birth certificate. Families must also be included in the PSER survey database. Authorities added that applicants must use a mobile number registered against their national identity card.

The government urged eligible families to apply through the CM Rahmat Card mobile application. It also provided a helpline number, 1077, for registration and assistance.

Officials said the digital system aims to simplify the application process and reduce delays in financial support delivery.

Last month, the Punjab government formally approved the Rahmat Card scheme in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. At the time, she said the initiative would ensure that widows and orphans do not feel abandoned by society.

She added that supporting marginalized communities remains a core responsibility of the government. She also said the programme seeks to strengthen financial stability for vulnerable groups through targeted welfare assistance.
