Supreme court of Pakistan AI in courts

According to a statement from the Supreme Court, AI will assist judges in court proceedings, but final decisions will be made by human judges only. AI will not be a substitute for judicial decisions, and judges will remain the final authority.

The statement said that the national guidelines emphasize transparency, accountability, and prevention of bias. It has also been made mandatory to ensure privacy and data security in the use of AI in the judicial system. AI will assist in case management, legal research, and document processing.

It further stated that special training programs will be launched for judges and court staff regarding the use of AI. The guidelines have been prepared in consultation with all High Courts.

The Supreme Court added that each High Court will determine its own procedure for implementing AI according to its needs, and the use of AI in courts is considered a major milestone in Pakistan’s judicial reform journey.

The launch of AI manifests a growing global trend where judicial systems will gradually be adopting digital and AI-based tools to improve efficiency.

In a nutshell Supreme court’s initiative in this context aims to speed up court processes, reduce delay in proceedings of cases, and improve access to legal resources, while still maintaining the essential human element in justice delivery.
