Maulana Tahir Ashrafi harassment in London

Following a harassment incident in London, the stance of Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Tahir Ashrafi has also come to light. In a video statement, he said:

“I was heading to a friend’s invitation in London with my family when individuals from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and some other miscreants stopped me and my family and behaved inappropriately. They spoke against the Pakistan Army. I told them that today the whole world is praising our army chief, and such behavior is not appropriate. But I ask everyone—if tomorrow your sister or daughter is with you and the same happens, would you tolerate it?”

He further stated, “I did not go to Imran Khan asking to be made a special representative; he came to me. Three individuals had requested me, and they are still alive—you can ask them. I have never taken even a single rupee of benefit for myself or my family.”

In his video message, Ashrafi said the individuals who stopped him attempted harassment and repeatedly questioned why he supports the army and its leadership. “I told them they have become great generals whom the world respects and prays for. I was with my family. Responsible members of PTI were present there—they should reflect on this. Our stance on Imran Khan’s imprisonment and his sisters not being allowed to meet him is clear, but similar incidents have happened with others, including Marriyum Aurangzeb. We do not do such things, nor have we been taught to—but what you are doing, which morality or teaching permits it?”

Ashrafi reiterated, “I want to make it clear that I did not go to Imran Khan seeking a position; he came to me. It is on record—three people requested me, and they are still alive or can be asked in jail: Shahbaz Gill, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, or Azam Khan. I have never taken any financial benefit for myself, my associates, or my party. If I ever did, I would be guilty. If I delivered results—especially when relations with the Arab world had been damaged—I helped restore them. We held conferences and worked sincerely for our country and for God. We do not need certificates from anyone.”
