New Zealand’s veteran all-rounder Suzie Bates has announced her retirement from international cricket after the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026.

According to a report by Cricinfo, Suzie Bates said she will retire from international cricket after the T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in England in 2026, bringing an end to her nearly 20-year illustrious career.

Recently returning to the team after recovering from injury, Bates will be included in the 15-member World Cup squad next week, after which she will travel to England with the team, where New Zealand will defend their title.

Bates said she did not realize how quickly time passed, adding that representing her country has always been a matter of pride for her, and now her final goal is to win another World Cup.

Having made her debut in 2006, Suzie Bates is the highest run-scorer in Women’s T20 Internationals and also holds a prominent position in ODIs.

She also captained the team for nearly seven years starting from 2011.

New Zealand’s current captain Amelia Kerr described her as one of the greatest cricketers in history.

Her departure from cricket will mark the end of a history for New Zealand women’s cricket, as she has been one of the team’s most consistent performers across formats. Known for her experience, and match-winning talent, Bates has played a key role in shaping the team’s success over the years and inspiring a new generation of cricketers.
