New stadium plan may bring PSL to Saudi Arabia

Web Desk: The Pakistan Cricket Board has approved an initial proposal to build a cricket stadium in Jeddah. The move could allow future matches of the Pakistan Super League to take place in the kingdom.

The board of governors cleared the plan during a recent meeting. As a result, the PCB has formally shown interest in working with the Saudi Arabia Cricket Federation. Officials say the project fits a wider strategy to expand cricket beyond traditional markets.

Moreover, the PCB wants to engage large expatriate communities in Saudi Arabia. Many residents from South Asia already follow the sport closely. At the same time, Saudi authorities continue to promote sports investment across the country.

Officials are now reviewing multiple locations in Jeddah. They aim to identify a site that meets international standards. However, negotiations with local authorities are still ongoing. Key issues include land allocation, funding, and regulatory approvals.

Sources say both sides will move toward a formal agreement if talks succeed. After that, construction work can begin without delay.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is pushing for a fast timeline. He wants the stadium ready within a year of signing the contract. The proposed venue will include floodlights and modern facilities. It will also offer enough seating for major matches.

The PCB plans to use the stadium for PSL matches and other fixtures. This step could bring top-level cricket closer to fans in the region. In addition, young players may gain more opportunities to develop their skills.

Overall, the project could strengthen sporting ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. It may also support cricket’s growth in a new and promising market.
