Punjab govt free surgeries, transplants


Lahore: The Punjab government has decided to provide free liver transplants, cochlear implants, heart surgeries, and dialysis for patients.


According sources, a meeting chaired by the Chief Minister of Punjab reviewed four major health projects.

The meeting was informed that 16,625 children were registered for heart surgeries, out of which 11,000 successful operations have been conducted. 3,802 children were treated in private hospitals at government expense.


Under the Special Transplant Program, 1,574 successful operations have been performed. The government pays PKR 6.5 million per liver transplant.

Additionally, 799 patients received kidney transplants and 469 underwent cochlear implants, while 32 patients received corneal transplants and 28 had bone marrow transplants free of cost.


Under the dialysis program, a record of 1.5 million procedures has been maintained.
