Washington: Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United States Rizwan Saeed Sheikh in an interview with a well-known American media outlet, shed detailed light on the current regional situation, Pakistan’s role in the Iran–U.S. negotiations, and the future course of action.

The Pakistani ambassador said that Pakistan’s mediation in the recent U.S.–Iran dispute serves broader regional interests. He expressed satisfaction that both parties have shown trust in Pakistan, for which Pakistan is grateful.

He noted that this is a highly complex issue influenced by political, economic, and regional factors. However, Pakistan has a long-standing tradition of peace-based diplomacy. He stated that Pakistan’s recent initiatives are based on goodwill and include other regional countries as well.

He expressed hope that the matters would be advanced in the broader interest of the region. He emphasized that diplomacy is a gradual process requiring time, and Pakistan is committed to providing every possible facilitation for productive dialogue. However, the responsibility for final decisions rests with the relevant parties.

Discussing the situation in Afghanistan, the Pakistani ambassador made it clear that Pakistan is the country most affected by cross-border terrorism. He said that despite repeated identification of terrorist activities and hideouts, the lack of effective action by the Afghan government has forced Pakistan to take measures itself.

He further stated that Pakistan cannot allow its people to fall victim to terrorism, and there is clear evidence of state-sponsored terrorism originating from Afghanistan. He also said that terrorism targeting Pakistan receives support from India.

The Pakistani ambassador reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to negotiations and diplomacy and stated that it will continue its efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
