Web Desk: The opening match of the 11th edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) was played between defending champions Lahore Qalandars and Hyderabad Kingsmen.
At Qaddafi Stadium in Lahore, an unusual incident occurred when the ball changed color, forcing a replacement.
The Hyderabad Kingsmen wore maroon-colored kits, which left a mark on the white Kookaburra ball, turning it light pink. This made it difficult for batsmen to see the ball clearly.
On social media, Hyderabad Kingsmen congratulated Lahore Qalandars on winning their first pink-ball game:
In a post-match press conference, Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne said he informed the umpires about the issue in the second over. He noted that while ball discoloration sometimes happens due to pads or bats, he had rarely seen it happen to this extent.
Labuschagne expressed hope that the issue will be resolved before the next match.
On the other hand, fast bowler Haris Rauf suggested that the color could also have come from the stadium seats, though confirming this is difficult.
